Hace un año largo le echamos ojo al patinaje de Jon Nguyen aquí. Y hace un mes, volvimos a tener buenas nuevas sobre su progresión vía DVS, porque ahora se desliza calzando el logo de esa marca en las suelas. Ese último clip está grabado, en su mayoría, en San Francisco, pero nuestro protagonista es original de una de las escuelas más fértiles del skate californiano, San José.
En Central Magazine somos proclives a no dejar caer en el olvido a patinadores de ayer que, por una razón u otra, se vuelven invisibles para la skate media. No es el caso de Jon, pues estamos seguros que en un futuro próximo va a tener los focos encima habitualmente. Por eso le pedimos una dosis de tributo a sus héroes locales, para que no se olvide de quienes le influenciaron para llegar a brillar.

5 leyendas del skate de San José:
1 – Jerry Hsu: Uno de mis favoritos de todos los tiempos. Veía su parte en el vídeo Black Cat constantemente mientras crecía. Tiene un estilo único que siempre me ha motivado.
2 – Jon Choi: Recuerdo que la primera vez que vi a Choi patinar me senté porque no podía dejar de mirarle. Estaba haciendo todos los trucos de flip en un hip que puedas imaginar, y bien hechos. No le conocí hasta años después, entonces me di cuenta de su calidad humana fuera de la tabla. Una leyenda, sin duda.
3 – Steve Caballero: Un O.G. Una vez fui a un instituto llamado Bernal, tiene un rail masivo sobre el que siempre hacíamos bromas. Un día vi esto:
4 – Caswell Berry: Es el ripador definitivo. Aniquila fácilmente todo lo que se le pone a su paso; sea un bowl, un rail de 20 escaleras o un bordillo. Su manera de consumir hierba es antológica, pero su habilidad con el patín es, de verdad, de leyenda.

5 – Matt Eversole: Ha hecho vídeos que me han influenciado muchísimo. Vídeos que me han enseñado lo increíble y divertido que es el skate. Sin mencionar su skate único y que siempre patina con las mejores canciones.
More than one year ago we noticed Jon Nguyen`s skating and posted this. Last month we received more news regarding his progression in the skate university vía DVS who added his talent to their amateur roster, welcoming him with a clip filmed mostly in San Francisco, even though Jon comes from San Jose, a city that has given rise to a host of amazing skaters, now and in the past. We asked Mr. Nguyen about who his personal local heroes were and he came with this.

5 skate legends from San Jose (California):
1 – Jerry Hsu: One of my all time favorites. His Black Cat part was on constant repeat when I was growing up. He has such a distinct and original style that always gets me hyped.
2 –Jon Choi: When I first saw Choi skate I remember sitting down because I couldn’t stop watching him. He was doing every flip trick you can think of on a hip and doing them so good. I didn’t meet him until years later and then found out what an amazing human he is off the board. Definitely a legend.
3 –Steve Cab: OG. I went to this middle school called Bernal and it has this huge rail we would always look at jokingly. Then I saw this.
4 –Caswell Berry: He’s the ultimate shredder. He kills everything in his path, be it a bowl, a 20 stair handrail, or a ledge. And he does so with ease. His weed intake alone is legendary, but his skateboarding capabilities are that of true legends.
5 – Matt Eversole: He has made videos that have had huge influences on me. Videos that showed me how fun and amazing skateboarding is. Not to mention his unique skateboarding and that he always skates to the best songs.
