Conocí a Andrea cuando tenía catorce añitos. Fue para el primer tour Asíplanchaba por el País Vasco. Fue muy gracioso porque su madre nos tuvo que firmar una autorización para que pudiera venirse. Así fue durante cuatro años más. Días antes de partir para un nuevo viaje, me llamó súper contenta, «Vero, ya tengo 18, ya no te tiene que firmar mi madre!»
Hoy en día, Andrea, que casi ha terminado su carrera de Ingeniería, habla polaco, inglés y gaditano, tiene la cabeza bien amueblada y es la primera chica en el equipo Adidas Skateboarding España. Ostenta una beca de skate y es una de las mejores puntuadas en los rankings de campeonatos europeos, de los que trata de no perderse ninguno.
De momento la podrás ver por las calles de BCN, aprovechando lo que la ciudad ofrece de dulce. Sobre su skate, con muchos planes en la cabeza y una una sonrisa en la cara.
¿De dónde eres exactamente y qué hay allí para una chica que empieza a skatear?
Soy de Algeciras, Cádiz, al sur del sur. Para una chica o chico que empiece a patinar allí, la verdad es que hay poco. Hay algunos spots y un parque pero no es una ciudad muy patinable.
¿Hace cuánto viniste a Barcelona y por qué?
La primera vez que me mudé a Barcelona fue en septiembre del año pasado. Básicamente, siempre había sido mi sueño vivir en el paraíso de los skaters. Tuve que volver unos meses al sur a terminar unos exámenes, pero aquí estamos de vuelta.
¿Cómo es tu vida skate aquí y cómo ves el skate femenino en la ciudad?
En Barcelona es donde realmente siento que me motivo y progreso. Aparte de los spots y skateparks es el ambiente. La mayoría de los días hay eventos en los que te encuentras a esa pequeña gran familia del mundo del patín y sientes que no estás sola. Cada vez hay más chicas en este mundillo y es increíble como sube el nivel. Nos llevamos todas genial y gracias a los eventos de Asiplanchaba estamos más que unidas.
¿A qué te dedicas o qué haces cuándo no patinas ?
Pues ahora me he comprado un tecladito por Wallapop y no paro de molestar. Me encanta la música, tocar la guitarra y cantar. He pasado mucho tiempo de mi vida estudiando Ingeniería Eléctrica, pero ahora, que sólo me queda el proyecto y unos créditos, estoy mucho más tranquila.

Vienes fresca de un viaje a China, ¿qué has estado haciendo allí y cómo fue la experiencia?
Sí, justo acabo de llegar de mi viaje a Nanjing. Fui con el equipo español de skateboarding a un campeonato bastante importante en el que he conocido a los mejores skaters del mundo. Ha sido impresionante patinar con los skaters que siempre he admirado. El simple hecho de estar en China y conocer una cultura tan distinta ha sido increíble. Repetiría sin duda alguna.
¿Qué crees que tienen que hacer las chicas skaters para ayudar a que la lucha por la igualdad de las mujeres en todo el mundo continúe ganando terreno?
Principalmente, reaccionar. Reaccionar ante cualquier mínima situación de desigualdad de género y no conformarse con como han sido las cosas «siempre».
Dile algo a esas chicas que viven en sitios donde apenas hay otras chicas skaters pero que tienen muchas ganas de empezar a patinar.
No hay nada en esta vida que te dé más satisfacción que hacer lo que realmente te gusta. Que nadie te diga lo que tienes que hacer y disfruta.

I met Andrea when she was fourteen years old. It was on the first Asiplanchaba tour around the Basque Country. I found it funny that her mum had to sign an authorisation sheet to allow her to come on tour. This was the case for the next 4 years. Days before leaving for a new tour she called me up and excitedly said «Vero, I’m 18 now. My mum doesn’t have to sign anymore!»
Today, Andrea who has nearly finished her Engineering degree, speaks Polish and English besides her natural Spanish, has a good head on her shoulders and is the first girl to become a part of the Spanish Adidas Skateboarding team. She has a skateboarding scholarship and is one of the highest ranked female skaters competing in Europe. You can find Andrea on her skateboard, enjoying the streets and sounds of Barcelona with lots of plans in her head and a smile on her face.
Where are you from and what is around that area for girls starting out in skateboarding?
I’m from Algeciras, Cádiz. The Southest of the South. There is not much out there for someone who starts skating. There are a few spots and a skatepark, but it isn’t a very skate-friendly city.
When and why did you move to Barcelona?
The first time I moved to Barcelona was in September last year. It has always been my dream to live in this skaters paradise. Since then, I’ve had to spend some time back home to finish some exams, but I am back now.
How is your skate life here and how do you see girl skate in the city?
Barcelona is where I truly feel motivated and where I progress. Apart from the spots and skateparks, there is a great atmosphere. There are events nearly every day where you can always find someone from our great skate family and you don’t feel so alone. There are more and more girls in this little world and its amazing how the skate level is increasing. We all get along very well. Thanks to Asiplanchaba events we are becoming even closer.
What do you do when you aren’t skating?
I’ve recently bought a small piano keyboard from Wallapop and I can’t stop playing it, to the annoyance of everyone around me, jaja. I love music, playing the guitar and singing. I’ve spent a lot of time studying for my degree in Electrical Engineering, I only have a few credits and my thesis left to finish so I’m a lot less stressed now.
You’ve just come back from China, what have you been doing there?
Yes, I’ve just come back from Nanjing. I went with the Spanish skateboarding team to a big competition where I met some of the best skateboarders in the world. It was an incredible experience skating with people I have always admired. Simply being in China and experiencing such a different culture has been amazing. I would love to do it again without a doubt
What do you think female skaters should do in the fight for gender equality?
Mainly, react. React against any situation of inequality and not just put up with things because «they have always been this way».
Say something to those girls who want to start skateboarding in a place where there are few female skaters.
There is nothing more fulfilling in this than doing what you are passionate about. Don’t let anyone tell you what to do and have fun.
